Maintenance Windows
A maintenance window tells Guardian that problems on certain devices are expected for a while. Use one before you patch, reboot or move equipment, so your team isn’t paged for planned work.
What happens during a window
Section titled “What happens during a window”For every device the window covers:
- Alerts are still recorded and appear in Alerts, marked During maintenance.
- No notification is sent: no email, Slack, Telegram, WhatsApp, SMS, webhook or PagerDuty message.
- No incident is opened.
Alerts raised outside the window, or for devices it doesn’t cover, behave as usual. Alerts that were already open when the window began are not affected.
Scheduling a window
Section titled “Scheduling a window”Go to Settings → Maintenance and click Schedule maintenance. Only Superadmins can create or end windows; everyone else can view them.
- Give the window a name, for example “Monthly patching”.
- Choose when it starts and ends. A window can last up to 14 days, and the start defaults to now.
- Choose what it covers: All devices, Selected devices, or a device group.
The list shows each window as scheduled, active, ended or cancelled, with the number of alerts it held back. Windows stay in the list for 30 days after they end.
Ending a window early
Section titled “Ending a window early”Click End now on an active window, or Cancel on one that hasn’t started. Alerts and incidents resume immediately. Ending a window is recorded in the audit log, as is creating one.
